Things That Make You Go Hmmmm

Last weekend I planted a few things:  tomatoes, cucumbers, and some herbs.  This morning when I let Bandit out I scanned the deck and saw that an animal had gotten into my cilantro and parsley plantings overnight.  They made a huge mess!  I was disappointed that my plastic-owl deterrent hadn't done any good.  Those pesky raccoons aren't afraid of anything.
A little while later, Bandit asked to go outside again.  After being outside for a short while I heard a funny noise.  I went to the slider and found Bandit with his front paws in the planting container, just furiously digging away at what dirt was left inside!  I caught our pesky raccoon in the act!  He had dirt on his paws and dirt covering his nose which he wiped on me in his initial attempt to say, I'm sorry, Mama.
Now it all makes sense.  None of the plants had been eaten, just a huge mess made.  And last night, M let Bandit in after his last potty break for the evening.  M  (he's 16) finds it a huge chore that he is occasionally asked to let Bandit in and wipe his paws, and last night as he was grumbling about the wipedown he remarked about how muddy Bandit's paws were.  I didn't think anything of it until now.  We didn't have rain yesterday that would have contributed to muddy paws.  I think Bandit definitely got into the plantings last night during his last potty break.  I'm actually relieved it was Bandit rather than a raccoon.  I should be able to salvage the plants and replant them today.

"It was just there, ripe for digging.  It was sooo much fun!"
It's hard to believe my sweet boy did this, and who can stay mad long at a face like this

Ah, yes, we experience the aussie digging up the plant phenomenon frequently. And the aussie running full force into the fence and taking down any plants that have survived the digging down. I therefore deem my backyard "hard on plants" and just assume it's survival of the fittest out there - you've got to be strong enough to live with an aussie!

Oh dear. I know all too well the tale of the mini Aussie and the mysterious uprooted plant. On the positive side, at least it was in the backyard and not the living room :) And Bandit's got a really great, handsome face!

well I guess I'm glad it wasn't a raccoon either and you found the culprit! :)

Isn't it funny how things like letting the dog out is such a 'chore' and oh so hard? I have one who is almost 15 and he is the same way :(

Hi Bandit - we have been catching up. You have a new fence, bread, sweet potatos and really cool looking friends. Oh, and that pot of dirt! We think your house sounds like fun.

AHHH, you truly are my Brother! I just dug a huge hole in the lawn, muddy feet that tracked all through the house. Mom was not pleased. I had just had a bath the night before so she only washed my feet, Phew!
I have not hit the planters yet but what a great idea.
Nice photos! You are one handsome pup. Happy Mother's Day to your mom!
